4-Day Dutch Windmills & Tulip Photography Workshop
Timed for peak tulip bloom · Guided by local knowledge · Small group experience
This isn’t just a photography trip - It’s four unforgettable days of capturing the Netherlands at its most atmospheric: misty windmills at sunrise, and endless lines of tulips in soft golden light.
From the historic iconic windmills of Zaanse Schans and Kinderdijk to the vibrant colours of the Dutch tulip fields — this workshop is designed to help you photograph these legendary landscapes with intention, creativity, and confidence.
One country. Four days. Three iconic locations.

Description
The Dutch Windmills & Tulip Photography Workshop is a four-day photography experience designed to help you capture the Netherlands at its most beautiful and atmospheric. Carefully timed around sunrise, sunset, and blue hour, this workshop gives you the time, guidance, and conditions to create striking images in some of the country’s most iconic landscapes.
One of the unique strengths of this workshop is local knowledge. René, one of your guides, was born and raised in the Netherlands and knows these locations deeply. His understanding of the light, seasons, and rhythm of these landscapes helps us plan each day so we are always in the right place at the right time.
You’ll be picked up from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and brought to our hotel in Zaandam, where the journey begins.
We photograph the historic windmills of Zaanse Schans, the vibrant colours of the Dutch tulip fields, and the world-famous windmills of Kinderdijk — each offering unique atmosphere, light, and photographic opportunities.
Alongside time in the field, you’ll receive daily guidance and image review sessions to refine composition, improve technique, and develop a consistent photographic style.
This is not a rushed tour, but a carefully designed workshop focused on learning, creating, and returning home with images you’ll be proud to share. The workshop is scheduled specifically for the short tulip bloom — a rare photographic window that happens only once each year.

Important note:
-
Tulip bloom depends on the season and weather conditions.

Day 1 – Friday, 17th April
Arrival at Schiphol Airport • Pick up and transport to hotel in Zaandam • Sunset at Zaanse Schans
You arrive in Amsterdam at Schiphol Airport and will be picked up by us and brought to our hotel in Zaandam. At the end of the afternoon we meet for a relaxed welcome and introduction, where we go over the program and get to know each other. In the evening we head to Zaanse Schans for a sunset and blue hour session among the historic windmills and traditional Dutch houses.

Day 2 – Saturday, 18th April
Sunrise at Zaanse Schans • Tulip Fields at Sunset
We return to Zaanse Schans early in the morning. At sunrise the location feels completely different: peaceful, atmospheric and often with beautiful reflections and soft light. After the shoot we return to the hotel for breakfast and rest. Later in the morning we travel north toward our next hotel near Schagen. In the afternoon we hold another editing session where we refine images and discuss composition and creative techniques. In the evening we visit the tulip fields for a sunset shoot. If the season and conditions are right, endless rows of flowers and warm evening light create incredible photographic opportunities.

Day 3 – Sunday, 19th April
Sunrise in the Tulip Fields • Transfer to Kinderdijk • Sunset Shoot
We begin early again with a sunrise shoot in the tulip fields. Morning light, dew and calm conditions often create the most atmospheric images of the flowers. After breakfast we travel south toward Dordrecht, where we check in to our hotel near Kinderdijk. In the afternoon we review images and continue with post-processing guidance. In the evening we photograph the windmills of Kinderdijk at sunset and blue hour—one of the most iconic landscapes in the Netherlands. After the session we return to the hotel.

Day 4 – Monday, 20th April
Sunrise Kinderdijk • Departure
On the final morning we return to Kinderdijk for a sunrise shoot. This is often one of the highlights of the workshop, with mist, reflections and dramatic skies creating unforgettable scenes. After breakfast and check-out we bring everyone to Schiphol Airport. We recommend booking return flights from the second half of the afternoon to allow enough time for transfer and a relaxed departure.
Your Own Local Guide
One of the quiet strengths of this workshop is René. Born and raised in the Netherlands, he knows these landscapes far beyond the usual viewpoints — where the light falls best, when the tulip fields are at their most beautiful, and how to move efficiently between locations for the best conditions.
This local knowledge adds depth, smoothness, and photographic advantage — helping you capture these iconic scenes at their very best.
What Gear Should I Bring to My Dutch Workshop?

Get ready to capture some of the most iconic landscapes of the Netherlands — from the soft morning light over misty windmills at Kinderdijk to the historic mills of Zaanse Schans and the endless colours of the tulip fields glowing in golden light. Travel light, but choose your gear thoughtfully. A versatile wide-angle lens is essential for landscapes, windmills and sweeping scenes; A versatile wide-angle lens such as 14–24 mm or 16–35 mm works perfectly. A 24–70 mm or 24–105 mm is ideal for classic compositions, details and storytelling shots in both the windmill villages and the flower fields. For isolating windmills, compressing perspective or capturing distant details, a 70–200 mm, 70–300 mm or 100–400 mm can be especially rewarding.
A compact yet sturdy travel tripod is highly recommended for sunrise, sunset and blue-hour photography, where longer exposures help create calm water, soft skies and strong reflections. During the day, shooting handheld keeps you flexible as we move between locations. And don’t forget to bring plenty of memory cards — these landscapes offer far more photogenic moments than you expect.
